Ladies Auxiliary VFW POST 7760 Launches Holiday Care Package Drive for Deployed Soldiers in Afghanistan

The Ladies Auxiliary VFW Post 7760 is collecting items for military care packages to support our deployed service members in Afghanistan.

The Ladies Auxiliary VFW Post 7760 is collecting now thru November 26, items for military care packages to support our deployed service members in Afghanistan. Tax deductible donations can be dropped off at the Post located at 2803 Monnier Street in Portage, IN throughout the next several weeks. Suggested donations include toiletries such as travel sized shampoo, conditioner, deodorants, and lotions as well as AAA batteries, phone cards, playing cards, magazines, CDs, hard candies, snack-sized snacks, power bars and boxed individual serving powdered drink mixes. Cash donations are also being accepted to help defray the cost of shipping. A full list of items is available at the post. Donations from the community are greatly appreciated and will directly support our local service members.

This is just one small way to help make a difference in the lives of people who serve our community and country. “As a mother of a deployed soldier, I know the conditions that our soldiers live in every day in Afghanistan. MRE’s, no PX, none of the comforts of home, except what we send them. They really appreciate knowing that people care about them,” says Mary Thorne, Portage resident.

The Auxiliary is also partnering with the American Red Cross in their annual Holiday Mail for Heroes Program. The process is very simple and takes no time at all - All you need is a pen and a Holiday card to share your appreciation for the sacrifices members of the U.S. Armed Forces make to protect our freedoms. Cards are also available at the post. The Holiday Mail for Heroes mail box is open and the troops are awaiting your good cheer.

For more information, you may contact the Mary Thorne at 219-628-0070
