2009 Fish-of-the-Year
There were 54 entries for 2009 Fish-of-the-Year, of which 27 were accepted. The smallest was a 12-inch bluegill caught by Abby Byrer of Warsaw in Crystal Lake, and the largest was a 50-inch muskie caught by Edwin Van Cleave of Chicago in Big Barbee Lake. Bill Hudock of Michigan City and Joe Tackett of Claypool tied for the walleye Fish-of-the-Year, each catching walleyes measuring 31 inches. Majority of the harbor in MC is still covered in ice, including the MC Lighthouse Pier. There is a small portion of open water just west of the Franklin St. Bridge. Currently, water temp is 39 F in the harbor with visibility around 12-16 inches. Trail Creek is currently 37 F at Friendship Gardens. Water levels are above averge with visibility around 8-12 inches.

The St. Joe River web report will now be updated weekly. The cold winter has delayed the annual spring steelhead migration. River temperatures are just now getting warm enough to trigger the very begining of the run. Water levels are good for both shore and boat fisherman. River temperature is 44 degrees.
