Army Reserve Pvt. Ryan S. Tinsley
Army Reserve Pvt. Ryan S. Tinsley has graduated from Basic Combat training at Fort Sill, Lawton, Okla. During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission and received instruction and training exercises in drill and ceremonies, Army history, core values and traditions, military courtesy, military justice, physical fitness, first aid, rifle marksmanship, weapons use, map reading and land navigation, foot marches, armed and unarmed combat, and field maneuvers and tactics. He is the son of Linda Cisneros of Monroe St., Crown Point, Ind.
Navy Seaman Recruit Ashley L. Woodstockton
Navy Seaman Recruit Ashley L. Woodstockton, daughter of Robin L. McGinley of Portage, Ind. and Bruce A. Wood of Mount Orab, Ohio, recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill. During the eight-week program, Woodstockton completed a variety of training which included classroom study and practical instruction on naval customs, first aid, firefighting, water safety and survival, and shipboard and aircraft safety. An emphasis was also placed on physical fitness. The capstone event of boot camp is "Battle Stations". This exercise gives recruits the skills and confidence they need to succeed in the fleet. "Battle Stations" is designed to galvanize the basic warrior attributes of sacrifice, dedication, teamwork and endurance in each recruit through the practical application of basic Navy skills and the core values of Honor, Courage and Commitment. Its distinctly ''Navy'' flavor was designed to take into account what it means to be a Sailor. Woodstockton is a 2007 graduate of Western Brown High School of Mount Orab, Ohio.
Air Force Airman Sean M. Cantrell
Air Force Airman Sean M. Cantrell has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. During the six weeks of training, the airman studied the Air Force mission, organization, and military customs and courtesies; performed drill and ceremony marches, and received physical training, rifle marksmanship, field training exercises, and special training in human relations. In addition, airmen who complete basic training earn credits toward an associate degree through the Community College of the Air Force. Cantrell is a 2000 graduate of Morton High School, Hammond, Ind.
Marine Corps 2nd Lt. Matthew T. Richardson
Marine Corps 2nd Lt. Matthew T. Richardson, son of Christyne Richardson of Chesterton, Ind. and Danny Richardson of Jacksonville, Fla., recently received his commission as an officer in the Marine Corps after completing Officer Candidate School (OCS) in Quantico, Va. During the 10-week-long training program, Richardson received extensive instruction on a variety of specialized subjects including Marine Corps history, tactics, operations and organization, land navigation and other military subjects. Richardson also completed a demanding daily physical fitness program that involved running, pullups, obstacle and endurance courses and calisthenics. In addition, Richardson and fellow OCS graduates received leadership training and instruction on the importance of the Marine Corps core values -- honor, courage and commitment; and how their meaning impacts the personal and professional conduct of men and women serving in the Marine Corps around the world. Richardson is a 2000 graduate of Fairhaven Baptist Academy of Chesterton, Ind. and joined the Marine Corps in January 2008.

Army Sgt. 1st Class Christopher S. Heldt
Army Sgt. 1st Class Christopher S. Heldt has been decorated with the Bronze Star Medal for supporting the mission of Operation Iraqi Freedom. The medal is awarded to an individual who, while serving in the U.S. armed forces, has performed a heroic act, meritorious achievement or distinguished service during armed conflict or ground combat while engaged against an armed enemy of the United States. Operation Iraqi Freedom is the official name given to military operations involving members of the U.S. armed forces and coalition forces participating in efforts to free and secure Iraq. Mission objectives focus on force protection, peacekeeping, stabilization, security and counter-insurgency operations as the Iraqi transitional governing bodies assume full sovereign powers to govern the peoples of Iraq. Members from all branches of the U.S. military and multinational forces are also assisting in rebuilding Iraq's economic and governmental infrastructure, and training and preparing Iraqi military and security forces to assume full authority and responsibility in defending and preserving Iraq's sovereignty and independence as a democracy. He is the son of Larry L. and Barbara L. Heldt of Mackinaw Place, Schererville, Ind. His wife, Donna, is the daughter of Michael D. and Susan Allen of Creekview, Prescott, Ariz. Sergeant Heldt's outstanding dedication to duty during combat operations in Iraq contributed to the overwhelming success of his commands mission. His actions were in keeping with the finest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon him, Multi-National Corps-Iraq, and the United States Army. Heldt, a detachment sergeant with 17 years of military service, is currently assigned to the 90th Military Police Detachment, Fort Leavenworth, Leavenworth, Kan. He graduated in 1986 from Bloom Trail High School, Chicago Heights, Ill., and received his bachelor's degree in 1998 from Western Illinois University, Macomb.

Army National Guard Spec. Amy R. Griggs has been mobilized and activated for deployment overseas to a forward operating base in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
