Adam Lanza, the 20-year-old who killed 20 children and six adults in a rampage at a Connecticut elementary school, took six classes at Western Connecticut State University in 2008 and 2009, beginning when he was just 16, and had a grade point average of 3.26.

Along with fire drills, schools have been conducting lock down drills -- often known as active shooter drills -- since the Columbine massacre in 1999. But safety officials do not agree yet on what teachers and students should do when a homicidal gunman invades their school.
The elementary school shooting in Newtown, CT has opened the politically explosive subject of gun control and the second amendment in the United States. That debate took center stage on the Sunday Talk Shows, where California Senator Diane Feinstein said she intended to introduce a gun control bill on the first day of the next Congress.
