First, the floods of 2008 and now the invasion of the emerald ash borer beetle. Munster is in the throes of an apocalypse, with a Purdue expert predicting the destruction of every ash tree in Munster by the year 2014. More than 100 residents also learned at an informational meeting Tuesday night that the Little Calumet River is the thoroughfare that transported the pest into their community from Porter County. Cliff Sadof, a professor at Purdue's West Lafayette campus said once an ash borer arrives it takes just eight years to totally kill-off all of a community's ash trees.
