Purdue just lost out on a $1,000,000 gift it didn't even know it had coming when it appointed Governor Mitch Daniels as its next university president. The action came about when Marilyn Haring, dean of Purdue's College of Education from 1991 to 2001, told a Lafayette newspaper that she was “troubled” by the appointment due to what she said is Daniels' “lack of academic background and his policy decisions regarding education funding and labor issues. Reportedly, Haring intended to donate one million dollars from her will to the College of Education which was created upon her exit from the university five years ago.
