Gary Police Chief Wade Ingram, with the support of Mayor Karen Freeman-Wilson, is enlisting the help of the city's churches in reducing violence. Gary ministers are invited to a "Stop the Violence" training on Monday, July 16 at 555 Polk St. at 11:00a.m. The program will talk about communicating with citizens about non-violence, and after being trained, ministers and members of their congregation can participate in a “Street Ministry” program where they will gather on street corners and other public places to encourage passersby to remain peaceful.
