Valparaiso Standoff Ends Peacefully

12 Noon Update: Valparaiso Police say a standoff that started just after 6-o'clock this morning ended peacefully about four hours later. Police were called to the 12-hundred block of Formula Drive, which is right off Roosevelt, for a male subject with a gun inside a business wanting to harm himself. The man called 911 himself. Police say he was the only subject inside the business during the entire incident. He's been taken to Porter Hospital for an evaluation, and criminal charges are pending as police continue to process the scene. Roosevelt Road from Beech Street to Evans Ave had been closed during the stand-off. The roadway has since re-opened.

Valparaiso Police was one person has been taken into custody after about a four-hour standoff that began shortly after six-o'clock this morning. Public Information Officer Sgt. Michael Grennes says Valparaiso Police, Fire, and EMS and members of the Porter County SWAT Team responded to a male subject inside a business threatening to harm himself with a gun. Police say there was no one else inside the building. Charges are pending. More information is being released later today. Police say no one was hurt, and the standoff ended peacefully.

Roosevelt Road and nearby Elm, Beech and Evans are in the process of reopening. The 900 and 1200 blocks of Roosevelt were closed while police were on scene.
