Informational pickets are being held outside ArcelorMittal plants in northwest Indiana and elsewhere in the country as the United Steelworkers are in the midst of talks with the steel company on a new labor agreement. The current contract expired this past Saturday. The USW says about 14-thousand production, maintenance, office and technical workers from 15 USW local unions are participating in negotiations with the world’s largest steelmaker this summer in Pittsburgh. The union says keeping retiree health care premiums at an affordable is among the key issues. On Sunday, United Steelworkers and U-S Steel agreed on a tentative three-year agreement covering about 16-thousand workers, including those at Gary Works.
