Indiana Attorney General Greg Zoeller says the number of “do not call” complaints are more than double what they were last year. His office has taken over 14-thousand calls and Zoeller is holding roundtables with other agencies, including the Federal Trade Commission, on ways to cut the number of unwanted telemarketing calls and “robo-calls”. Zoeller says he wants to find ways to better trace illegal calls, prosecute violators and fight caller ID spoofing -- technology that allows scammers to disguise the source of the call. According to complaint data, Zoeller says about 53 percent of unwanted call complaints concern credit card interest rate reduction scams and 13 percent are about sweepstakes or prize related scams – like text messages offering free gift cards.
