Laporte County Coroner John Sullivan says an Illinois man died at a local hospital Monday after being pulled from the waters of Lake Michigan Sunday. Sullivan says 57-year-old Frederick McKeon of Lake Hills was swimming with his son-in-law that evening at Stop Five, which is just a little east of Washington Park in Michigan City, in rip current conditions, when the man was overcome by waves estimated at approximately four-feet. Sullivan says the son-in-law with help from bystanders on the beach got the man out of the water. The man was transported to Franciscan St. Anthony Hospital in Michigan City where he says McKeon passed away just after 11:30 Monday morning.
