The Great Downtown Tailgate is set to be held at Central Park Plaza in downtown Valparaiso for the Notre Dame/Miami game Saturday night. Jennifer Peek, Marketing Director for Valparaiso Community Festivals and Events, says a night game was decided in order to project the game on the their big blow-up screen, which was used during their 2012 Outdoor Movies season. Peek says gates will open at 5:00 pm so people can set up their chairs and blankets and get settled in. Peek says there will be pre-game fun and games for families including a zip line in the park, which she says is a great opportunity for first time zip-liners and a quarterback toss. She adds that admission is free and that there will also be a beer garden and food vendors available. Peek also encourages all football fans to attend and show up in their fan gear and it is a good idea to dress for "football weather" with temperatures predicted to be in low to mid 40's game time. While coolers are allowed, Peek says tents and grills are not due to safety and visibility issues.
