A model program offered nation-wide to create a safer future for residents is being offered by the Hammond Police Department. Police chief Brian Miller says the department recently sent two officers to R.A.D. Instructor School-- R.A.D. stands for, Rape Aggression Defense-- and are now ready to begin a women only class and gauge interest for future classes. Miller says the first three-day class will be held November 5th, 7th and 8th at 7:30pm at the Hammond YMCA . The fee is 15-dollars with class size limited to first twenty women who sign up. Miller says to insure privacy, there will be no men in these classes, and no windows for men to watch. To register or more information call the Hammond YMCA, (219) 845-1507.
