Deputy Chief Gerald Smith was sworn in as interim chief of police for the Cedar Lake Metropolitan police department at Tuesday night's town council meeting. The town council by a vote of five-to-one accepted a letter of resignation from Chief Randall Mayersky and approved a rank of lieutenant, based on the letter, which not read aloud. Mayersky had been chief of police since November last year.
