Man Sentenced for Fleeing Work Release

A 24 year old Chicago man accused of not returning to a Lake County Work Release Center was sentenced to one year in prison Wednesday. Lake County prosecutor Bernard cater says Vincent Velazquez was authorized to leave the work release center, on July 28, 2011, to walk over to the Lake County Sheriff's Department to register at the Sex Offender Registry, but never returned. Published reports say he was serving a sentence on a probation revocation for sexual misconduct with a minor at the time. Carter says Velazquez was found by Chicago Police several months later, and returned to Lake County. Published reports say Velazquez had 337 days in custody and was released from the Lake County Jail for time served.
