A new device to curb crashes by enforcing how closely you drive behind another vehicle was presented to the public today. Indiana State Police Sergeant Ann Wojas says SWIFT, or Speed with Intent Following Too Close, Patrols will be utilizing the “distance between cars software” on their Lidar speed timing devices, which makes it harder to fight in court because it is their in video, broken down in time and distance, and also includes your speed. Wojas says enforcement blitz will continue utilizing a combination of marked and unmarked vehicles. She says some type of commercial motor vehicle crash occurs every one-point-two days for following too closely and every other day for speeding, occurring mainly on the Interstates, U.S. Highways and State Roads within the Lowell District.
