The Porter County Assessor today announced that in less than two years, his office has resolved all outstanding appeals from 2006 through 2010, as well as appeals filed in 2011, totaling over nine-thousand cases. Assessor Jon Snyder says the purging of the appeals backlog has refunded an estimated 15 million dollars, as well as over an estimated one million dollars in interest payments back into the taxpayers pockets. Property Tax Board of Appeals, or PTABOA, President Joe Wszolek says this was a collaborative effort and now lets government entities involved can function with a budget they can depend on. Snyder says new software has also helped in moving the process along, to help ensure appeals are done in a timely manner. Snyder says there are current about 1,200 active appeals, with the deadline to file for an appeal being November 13^th.
