With identity theft becoming so prevalent now days, authorities are offing some tips to safeguard you from this crime. Hammond Police Chief Brian Miller says guard your social security number with your life, and do not carry your social security card in your wallet or purse. Chief Miller also suggests making a xerox copy of everything in you carry in your wallet. Miller says beware of scams, either through phone calls or email, asking for personal information, and to use internet passwords with at least eight characters, using numbers and different case letters.
