Michigan City, Indiana (Jan. 3, 2013) – The board of Northern Indiana’s official regional tourism organization unanimously named Jack Arnett, Executive Director of the LaPorte County Convention and Visitors Bureau, its new president Thursday at its monthly meeting.
Arnett, who has headed the LaPorte County tourism bureau since 2007, will begin serving as president immediately. In that capacity, he will oversee the seven-county organization, which utilizes a regional approach to help improve buying power and broaden marketing capabilities for the member counties. NITDC (the Northern Indiana Tourism Development Commission) also increases employment and economic development of the hospitality industry throughout the region by focusing on the needs of the visitor.
Porter, St. Joseph, Marshall, Elkhart, Kosciusko and LaGrange counties join LaPorte County in filling out the organization’s membership.
“I am deeply honored by having been elected to serve as president of NITDC,” Arnett said. “It’s very humbling to follow behind those who have previously served, most of whom are leaders across the country in our industry.”
Lorelei Weimer, executive director of Indiana Dunes Tourism in Porter County, said, “I work closely with Jack and he will do an excellent job as president of this organization.”
NITDC’s philosophy is that Northern Indiana can better compete for increased tourist visitation by positioning itself as a single destination by combining the resources of the region’s destination marketing organizations, the private sector and the Indiana Tourism Division to create integrated marketing programs that allow for the building of a strong regional brand without undermining the brand equity of each member.
“Working together, as a regional body, while allowing individuals DMO’s to maintain their own identity, is what makes NITDC so successful,” Arnett said. “Working on a regional level is a huge plus, but works perfectly when the larger group makes sure to complement what the individual organizations offer themselves.”
