The Whiting Elks club had another successful Christmas Dinner thanks in part to its numerous volunteers who showed up to serve on Christmas Day! (I just feel thankful I got to be a part of it!!!) More than a hundred sailors from the Great Lakes Naval Academy enjoyed food and entertainment in their home away from home yesterday. Many enjoyed phone calls home and spent time checking their Facebook on computers! (They aren't allowed phones/computers while in bootcamp) Could you last that long without those conveniences? I know I couldn't!!!
It was heartwarming to see how thankful this young men and women were just for a break from their "chow". It was amazing how young they all were, yet so mature! Some had young children and wives at home, some just wanted to talk to mom and dad. Either way it was a nice break from seeing all the negativity in the news! A big thanks to everyone who volunteered their time on Christmas! It is the season of giving you know!!! Hope your holiday was just as amazing as mine! (More pictures in my album!)
Oh and congratulations to all the sailors on their graduation this week!!!
