Recent drownings have prompted the Indiana Department of Child Services and the Department of Natural Resources to issue a joint news release reminding parents and guardians to keep a close eye on children playing in or near water. The agencies say two Indiana children have died due to accidental drowning within the past week .. the Indianapolis Star reports an eight-year-old girl slipped and fell into a pond near an apartment complex in Indianapolis, and a 14-year-old boy drowned in a campground lake in southeast Indiana. The DNR says eight Indiana children younger than 17 have drowned in the past two years.
