Ind Gas Prices High, Why?

According to AAA , Indiana has the 7th highest gas prices in the nation averaging $3.78 a gallon, and pain at the pump is being seen in neighboring states of Illinois, Ohio and Michigan as well. Indiana Attorney General Greg Zoeller [zeller] says his office has determined the recent spike is due to a drop in Midwest oil supply after one refinery shut down and three others partially closed in Illinois -- four refineries that combined account for 81 percent of refining capacity in Illinois and Indiana.

The Wood River refinery, the 6th largest in the country, operated by Marathon is performing annual maintenance earlier than expected this year.

Zoeller said scheduled partial refinery closings in Illinois include Exxon Mobil in Joliet, Marathon in Robinson and CITGO in Lemont... while B-P in Whiting experienced a partial shutdown from June 1 – 11, but is now back online.

The Attorney General’s Office received 65 gas-price related complaints so far this month – with more than 90 percent of those complaints submitted this week alone.
