The 66th running of the Soap Box Derby in Valparaiso is this Saturday... featuring 38 racers plus the superkids, disabled children who get to experience going down the hill. Weigh-ins are today, Tuesday, and Wednesday, June 18th 19th and 20th, 5 to 8 pm, at American Legion Post 94 in Valparaiso, and the weigh-ins for the cars are open to the public. Mike Bottom, chairman of the Soap Box Derby, says participants are coming from outside the region and the state, including Fort Wayne, Lafayette, Medaryville, Brookston, and Elk Grove Village, Illinois. Division winners go on to worldwide championships in Akron, Ohio July 21. The derby is open to children 7 to 17, with signups already being taken for next year. Part of Lincolnway will be blocked off starting early this Saturday morning.
