The search resumed Tuesday morning for a New York man missing in the waters of Lake Michigan off Beverly Shores, and officials say they are now in recovery mode versus rescue mode. Indiana DNR Conservation Officer Terri Arlandson says the man went out with another person on a small inflatable raft that had two oars, but there were strong winds Monday afternoon, overpowering their chances of getting back to shore. The woman on the raft was able to be rescued by a bystander, but the man was unable to be found. Arlandson says side-scan sonar gives searchers a “picture” of underwater and where they may need to send in divers... and that was utilized in the search along with personal watercraft used closer to shore. The search area was extended yesterday from Beverly Shores eastward towards Michigan City. The boat was recovered Monday.
