Asian Carp are a delicacy in the Far East, but in the midwest, Chicago area, they're considered invasive and there've been multiple efforts to keep them out of the Great Lakes. So, today, the Illinois Department of Natural Resources and Dirk's Fish & Gourmet Seafood will be handing out Asian Carp "sliders" topped with chutney from noon until they're gone (they've got about 750 samples we're told). Illinois Department of Natural Resources Spokesman Chris McCloud says they're not looking to create a longterm sustainable market, but for the time being, they're in plentiful supply, and this could be another way of reducing their numbers. McCloud says Asian Carp is a mild tasting whitefish. A cpuple years ago the IDNR instituted a program to help feed the hungry with Asian Carp, with the help of chefs from around the area and elsewhere.
