Lake County Sheriff John Buncich is encouraging caretakers of animals to call the county animal shelter and not just let animals loose, after the Lake County Sheriff’s Department Posse unit Tuesday rounded up four horses believed to have been turned loose by unknown individuals. The horses were malnourished, police say, and one had some injuries. All have since been seen by a veterinarian and are being fostered. A few days before the Sheriff’s department was contacted, police say a black truck pulling a white horse trailer was spotted stopping at the side of Route 2 and State Line Road west of Lowell, letting three horses out. The fourth horse is not believed to have been among the three who were dropped off.
