An 18-year-old man from Valparaiso was airlifted to Chicago after being struck by a train Saturday morning in Valparaiso. Here is the news release issued by Valparaiso Police:
On Saturday morning (11:26 a.m.) police were dispatched to the area of Yellowstone Rd near the Canadian National Railroad Tracks to check on a mail subject walking on the railroad tracks wearing headphones.
Officers arrived on scene and located a stopped train with the train conductor standing outside the train. Officers learn from the train conductor that a male subject had been walking WB on the tracks and the train also traveling WB on the tracks had struck the male subject. Valparaiso Fire/EMS arrived on scene and treated/transported the male subject identified as Nicholas Domer, (6/7/94) of Valparaiso to Porter Hospital.
Police learned through their investigation that the male subject was walking WB on the tracks wearing headphones. The train conductor on numerous occasions sounded the train's horn in an attempt to warn the subject. When it became apparent the male subject was not going to get out of the way, the train conductor initiated an emergency stop on the train.
The male subject after being transported to Porter Hospital was later airlifted to a Chicago Hospital.
