Indiana State Police at the Lowell Post say an early morning traffic stop ended with a driver attempting to flee through farm fields and yards in Jasper and Starke Counties. At about 7:30 this morning police say Master Trooper Aaron Correll was on State Road 10 when he saw a pick-up drive off the road, then take off after the officer activated his emergency lights. Police say at one point, the suspect vehicle also went through a stop sign before hitting a fence in someone's yard, then fleeing on foot into a wooded area. The 36-year-old man was located behind a barn and taken into custody without incident, troopers say. Police say at no time did he try to enter any of the residences.
The suspect was taken to Jasper County Jail where he is charged with: Habitual Traffic Violator for Life, Resisting Law Enforcement, Two counts of Criminal Mischief, Reckless Driving, Possession of Marijuana, multiple traffic violations, a Parole Violation for Burglary and an active warrant out of White County for Resisting Law Enforcement.
Agencies assisting: Police say instrumental in the capture of the suspect was Jasper County Deputy Brian Burke and his K-9 “Bolek”, Jasper County Sheriff Department, Starke County Sheriff Department, Department of Natural Resources and Indiana State Police Criminal Investigation Division.
