The man who faced a murder charge in the beating death of his son pleaded guilty to multiple charges of neglect and death of his 13-year old son. The Times is reporting that 40-year old Riley Choate, formerly of Gary, plead guilty in Lake Criminal Court on Friday in exchange for a lesser prison sentence. According to the article, police discovered Christian Choate's severely malnourished body in May of 2011 from a shallow grave in a Gary mobile home park.
Court documents state that Riley Choate admitted he started beating and punishing Christian after discovering the biy told a sibling they had to play the "hump game" in order to be brothers. The Times is reporting that Riley Choate also admitted that he and then-wife Kimberly Kubina kept Christian in a dog cage in their bedroom. And that Choate had admitted to watching his son become visibly malnourished but did nothing to seek medical help.
According to court records, Kubina had pleaded guilty earlier this year to neglect and faces 25 to 35 years in prison. Riley Choate faces an agreed term of 80-years when sentenced January 11th, according to the Times. Read more about this story at: http://www.nwitimes.com/news/
