11:20am Central Time: UPDATE ON I65:
Indiana State Police say one lane of southbound I-65 at mile marker 179 north of Lafayette has opened, but troopers say it will probably take more than two-hours to clear the backup from the multi-vehicle accident that happened about three hours ago. Troopers will be checking the area for anyone stranded or out of gas in the backup. The crash, which police say may have involved six to eight vehicles, happened north of State Road 43.
Indiana State Police are urging everyone not to travel unless it is necessary. Also, police say make sure your vehicle has at least a half-tank of fuel anytime you travel in winter – because you may become stranded or stopped in situations like the accident near Lafayette, where you'll have to wait for long periods of time.
