City officials say 68 weapons were turned in during a gunback held by the city of Gary Saturday, where churches in Gary again served as drop-off sites. City officials say one assault rifle, four shotguns, twelve rifles, and fifty-one handguns were collected, in exchange for Wal-Mart gift cards.
According to Police Chief Wade Ingram, a total of 129 guns were turned in in exchange for Wal-Mart cards during the city's Gun Buyback in August, where local churches partnered with the Gary Police Department to serve as the turn-in locations, and a similar Gun Buyback held in October in Gary brought in 107 weapons.
