Officials say a convicted murder serving a 60-year sentence in Indiana was mistakenly released by Chicago officials, and law enforcement in both states are searching for him. The Indiana Department of Correction says 44-year-old Steven L. Robbins was taken to Cook County Circuit Court Tuesday on a warrant for charges that were dismissed, and for reasons not yet known, he was released by Illinois authorities. Officials say Robbins was born in Gary and was convicted in Marion County of murder and carrying a handgun without a license. Robbins is described as black , approximately 5 ft and 5 inches, 190 lbs, with a tattoo on the right side of his neck that says “Nicole”. Anyone with information is asked to contact the nearest law enforcement agency, or dial 911. Authorities say Robbins arrived at the Indiana State Prison in October 2004 and his earlier projected release date was in June 2029.
