The Crown Point Board of Public Works and Safety today voted three-to-nothing to suspend a police officer with pay, pending his termination, regarding the results of an investigation into the officer's handling of a police chase in May of 2012. The Times reports Officer James Poling in October submitted his resignation, after learning the results of the investigation, and in December, applied for an early separation incentive from the city, worth 13-thousand-200 dollars, which the city permitted to be effective in April of this year, so he could reach 20 years, there-by allowing him to qualify for certain retirement benefits. Published reports say the city has issued a stop-payment order on that check, after learning of Poling's lawsuit, which was filed earlier this month against Mayor David Uran and Police Chief Pete Land, and alleges the two attempted to terminate his employment because he objected to a Mayoral appointee to the Board of Public Works and Safety. The Times reports Poling now has five-days to request a hearing by the Public Works Board.
