Spring 5K Event Shapes the Lives of Region Girls

Girls On The Run of Northwest Indiana is the local chapter of a national organization that is a life-changing, character building program for girls in 3rd through 8th grade.
Jill Schlueter-Kim, Council Director says  girls in Lake, Porter, Jasper and La Porte counties are invited to sign-up for this 10 week, after school course that through exercise, positive reinforcement and encouraging role models, develops confidence girls need during their critical pre-teen years.  Schlueter-Kim says the program, offered twice a year, culminates in a 5k run.
Jodi Aurand, Spring Race Director, says the 10-week spring program ends in a celebratory Spring 5K run starting 9 a.m., Saturday, May 11th at Wicker Memorial Park in Highland.  Aurand says that the 5K event itself is also open to men and women of all ages.  According to an article in the Times, last year's Girls On the Run Fall 5K event attracted 547 registered GOTR participants that included girls and their running buddies and other members of the Northwest Indiana community.
For more information about the 10-12 week program and the 5K non-competitive and non-timed event, contact Aurand at (219) 718-5138.  Or visit the Girls On the Run website: http://gotrofnwi.org.
