The owner of Richie's Mini Mart in Lansing, Illinois, is facing drug and weapon charges following an investigation into complaints the store was allegedly selling synthetic marijuana. The Lansing Police Department reports 47 year old Rashad Shatat, of St. John, Indiana, was arrested during the execution of a search warrant at the business last week, which resulted in the seizure of over ten-thousand grams of suspected synthetic marijuana, otherwise known as K-2 or Spice, along with numerous items of drug paraphernalia, a loaded handgun, and nearly three-thousand dollars in U.S. currency. A ban on synthetic marijuana went into effect January 1, 2011, in Illinois, making it a felony offense to buy, sell or possess the product, which is also illegal in Indiana.
