Officials with the Indiana Toll Road have issued a Winter Weather Ban beginning at 7pm EST/6pm CST today. The ban is in effect for the entire length of the Indiana Toll Road and will remain in effect through noon EST/11am CST Monday, January 6th. The ban is in effect for all triple, long-double and high profile oversize permit loads as well as low profile steel haulers. A Winter Storm Warning for heavy and blowing snow begins this evening until late Sunday night, with a Wind Chill Warning in effect from late Sunday night through Monday night. ...

A 35 year old Gary man was arrested on Friday as the result of an on going investigation into auto thefts. The Lake County Sheriff's Office reports Cleveland Neal was arrested for possession of a stolen handgun, possession of a stolen motorcycle and possession of a vehicle with an obliterated vehicle identification number after a search warrant was issued at 7:15am in the 600 block of West 41st Avenue in Gary. Additional, Neal was also arrested on an active warrant on a driving offense through the Gary Police Department. The Sheriff's Office reports multiple firearms and a motorcycle titled through Wisconsin were also recovered and taken into evidence. ...

Indiana health officials today announced three influenza-related deaths, the first influenza deaths of the 2013-2014 flu season. State Health Commissioner William VanNess, M.D. says influenza is now widespread across the Hoosier state and encourages everyone to become vaccinated. The CDC reports several flu-related deaths, including children, have been reported across the nation and predict the numbers will increase as the flu season continues. Dr. VanNess reminds Hoosiers to clean your hands often with soap and warm water, cover your cough or sneeze with your sleeve or tissue, and if your sick to stay home.
Symptoms of flu include:
· fever 100 degrees Fahrenheit, or greater
· muscle aches
· sore throat

Search efforts for a Illinois woman in southwestern Indiana who has been missing since Sunday have concluded for today. Indiana Conservation Officers report several personal items were located in a field downstream from the accident site. Cathryn McGill was a passenger in a vehicle driven by her husband when their pickup was swept off the road in flood waters on Highway 257. McGill's husband was found but she was not. Authorities report after the search area is cleared tomorrow (Saturday), search efforts may be long-term due to the probability that she is in the main body of the White River. ...
