Region residents who purchase a new or used vehicle this weekend will also be helping the Boys and Girls Clubs across the region. Participating dealers of the Northwest Indiana Auto Trade Association are having their annual "Spring Sale" fundraiser event on Friday, Saturday and Monday; May 16, 17, 19, 2014. Sharon Burke, Secretary/Treasurer of the auto trade association says, "For those three days every car that they (participating dealers) sell, whether it be used or new, they will donate $25 to the association who then pays The Boys & Girls clubs in the different areas."
According to an NIATA press release, the money will be donated to The Boys & Girls Clubs of Lake, Porter and La Porte Counties.
Burke says the logic behind multiple dealers participating is to, "make a bigger, bigger impact on each community." She points out that the association also gives out six $2,000 scholarships every year to high school seniors that qualify.
The reason behind having the promotion run until Monday is because current Indiana Blue laws prohibit dealers to sell cars on Sundays. Burke adds, "a lot of people like to get out and look at cars...so we decide to have it on Monday to catch those buyers that were walking around on Sunday."
She says prospective car buyers this weekend can visit any of the participating Northwest Indiana Auto Trade Association member dealers listed below. Car buyers can also visit the association website for a complete list of NIATA members, although Burke says that not every member may be participating in the fundraising event.
