Hoosiers: Purchase Fireworks from Licensed Vendors

category 25 DefaultImage

With fireworks season on the horizon, the Indiana State Fire Marshall reminds Hoosiers to purchase fireworks only from licensed fireworks vendors.  According to the Indiana Department of Homeland Security, fireworks vendors of any kind must be licensed to sell fireworks in Indiana, and must have a permit from the I-D-H-S's Fire and Building Safety Division, which is overseen by the StateFire Marshall.  Fireworks vendor permits must displayed on the wall in the stores.  Officials say, if you don't see a permit, ask an employee to see it.  If the permit can't be produced, call the State Fire Marshall at (317) 232-2222.

Only those 18 years of age orlder can purchase fireworks.  Without a special permit, it is only legal to buy 1.4G consumer fireworks.  This includes bottle rockets and fire crackers, among others, according to the IDHS.
