Porter County Recorder Jon Miller is alerting county residents to be aware of a solicitation letter that is being mailed to local residents by a company named Local Records Office out of Indianapolis. Miller says the company sends government-like mailers to consumers offering copies of deeds and “property profiles” for a fee of 89-dollars. Miller calls that amount “very inflated”, as property deeds are public records and a copy may be obtained for one-dollar at your County Recorder's office. He also notes that homeowners are not required to have copies even when they go to sell a property. Miller says if you have any questions about copies of documents or fees related to homeownership, to contact his office at (219) 465-3465.
