Hammond School Superintendent Injured in Home Burglary

School City of Hammond Superintendent Dr. Walter Watkins was hospitalized this morning after being injured during a home break-in. Hammond Police Lt. Richard Hoyta told the Region News Team Watkins suffered head trauma as a result of the break-in, which is believed to have occurred between 9:30pm Monday, and 10am this morning . Lt. Hoyda says the burglary was reported this morning after Dr. Watkins's sister went to his home to provide him with breakfast and found him injured. Lt. Hoyda says an inventory of the contents of the home continues to determine what was taken, but they can confirm a black 2013 Ford Edge belonging to the School City of Hammond was taken, with municipal Indiana plate number 2-0-6-8-0.

Lt. Hoyda says an investigation continues and anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to please contact the Hammond Police Department at (219) 853-6490.
