The Superintendent of the School City of Hammond reportedly remains in critical condition from injuries police say he suffered during a break-in at his home earlier this week. Hammond Police Lt. Richard Hoyda told the Region News Team 67-year-old Dr. Walter Watkins suffered head trauma in the attack. Lt. Hoyda says the burglary is believed to have occurred between 9:30 Monday night and 10 am Tuesday and was reported Tuesday morning after Dr. Watkins's sister went to his home to provide him with breakfast and found him injured. Lt. Hoyda says a black 2013 Ford Edge, municipal Indiana plate number 20680, belonging to the School City of Hammond was taken. Lt. Hoyda says an investigation continues and anyone with information is asked to contact the Hammond Police Department. The Times reported earlier that Dr. Watkins was transferred from Franciscan St. Margaret Health in Hammond to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, Illinois.
