INDOT crews are testing the traffic signal at US 30 and Taft Street (State Road 55) this morning. US 30 at Taft is open once again but remains a 4-way stop, and INDOT reports it will likely remain a 4-way stop during the remaining morning hours today. They hope to have signal working again by this afternoon; until then, motorists can expect delays at the intersection.
Overnight, about a ten-mile stretcj of US 30 was shut down from I-65 in Merrillville and US 41 in Schererville so INDOT and NIPSCO crews could make repairs to lines and lights damaged in Monday's night severe weather. It was initially thought the closure from 10 pm Wednesday would continue until 10 am this morning (Wednesday), but work was completed much earlier than expected. The intersection of US 30 and Taft was the only area to stay closed as repairs continued. The signal at that intersection came down and was on westbound lanes of US 30 Tuesday morning.
