A northwest Indiana firefighter escapes injury when the truck he was operating tips and overturns on rain-soaked ground. The Times today says the vehicle was coming to a stop at the edge of a gravel shoulder along US 35 Tuesday afternoon when it rolled over in a slow-motion, ending up upside down. Fellow firefighters pulled him out of the cab, and there was no one else inside the fire truck. He was at the scene of a house fire just north of LaPorte. Officials say the fire started in the basement from an apparent electrical problem caused by a problem with a small appliance. The homeowner reported the house was hit by lightning twice as severe storms were moving across the Region Monday night.
