Restaurant Planned for Former Jail

Before year's end you may be able to get yourself a meal, and decorate your house, by stopping at the former Porter County Jail. Valparaiso Redevelopment Commission Executive Director Stuart Summers says the commission this week approved a $200,000 loan to help pay for outside improvements, things like landscaping, repairing brick work, lighting, as the owner plans to put a Mexican restaurant and home furnishings store inside. The jail building at Indiana and Franklin has been empty for years since the Porter County Sheriffs Department moved to State Road 49.
