Indiana Smoke Ban Kicks In

Indiana's new statewide smoking ban took effect Sunday. It includes most public spaces and workplaces, but there are a number of exemptions... including private clubs like American Legion halls, who can opt to go smokefree, or not. The ban also does not include bars and taverns, casinos, cigar and hookah bars and tobacco shops. The city of Indianapolis adopted its own smoke ban, which took effect June first. A number of cities around the state and region already had their own smoke bans in effect, including Valparaiso, Chesterton, Crown Point, Lowell, Bloomington and West Lafayette. Indiana State Health Commissioner Dr Gregory Larkin says state law is the bare minimum as far as who is included, and individual cities or towns can have laws that are more restrictive.
