Traffic Signals Talk

Valparaiso is in the process of upgrading, removing and adding traffic lights around the downtown area to improve safety and flow. Valparaiso Redevelopment Commission Director Stuart Summers says the system will allow the signals to 'talk' to each other, essentially communicating traffic volume to prompt smooth sequencing of red lights to green lights.  The city got 80-percent funding on a traffic signal grant. Summers says the updates, which include a new signal at Morgan and Jefferson, and one at Washington and Monroe (currently a four-way-stop), should be complete this summer. The flashing signal at Franklin and Indiana is being removed.
