A four-hour standoff in a residential neighborhood on the west side of Valparaiso ended peacefully Monday night. Shortly after 4 pm Valparaiso Police say they were dispatched to the 1000 block of Elmhurst Street after a family member called police regarding a male relative inside the house with a gun threatening to harm himself. Police say the man was the only person inside the home during the entire standoff. The Porter County SWAT Team arrived on scene, and shortly after 8:30 pm they entered the house and removed the man, who was transported to Porter Hospital for an evaluation. Area streets including Elmhurst and Bond were blocked off for a time.
