The Griffith Fire Department will be one of many in the region this weekend holding an open house as part of National Fire Prevention Week. Lieutenant Don Hill says the event takes place Saturday, from noon to 4pm, and is free to the public. Lieutenant Hill says this year's open house promises to be their best ever, with the Junior Firefighter's Challenge obstacle course; Canadian National Railroad is bringing a scaled down freight train which gives kids and parents a short ride through the neighborhood, while teaching about safety near the rails. He says New York Life will be making photo I-D's for the kids, while Schererville Police will have a state certified instruct parents on proper child seat installation. Hill says if the weather is uncooperative, the fire station is large enough to accommodate most of the events.
