Indiana US Senate candidate Richard Mourdock spoke to reporters in Indianapolis today, saying he wanted to clarify his comments after last night's debate question concerning abortion. "To twist and suggest that somehow I was saying that God approves of rape is the wrong thing," Mourdock said, "because it's not what I was saying, it's certainly not what I intended and again if anyone came away with that, then I apologize that they were able to make that interpretation from my less than fully articulate use of words."
An emotional discussion about abortion took place about 15-minutes before the end of Indiana Senate debate Tuesday. The moderator said questions received from voters reflected the divide on beliefs about conception and abortion, and one voter wanted to know, do you believe life begins at conception, and in that person's view, 'what would you do to protect the babies who could be aborted during your term in the Senate?'
The debate was sponsored by the Indiana Debate Commission.
