A Union Township home is being considered a total loss after a fire this morning. Union Township Assistant Fire Chief Tim Beach says they received the call just before 8:30 in the morning, and spent about six hours at the scene, located on Sassafras Drive in the Salt Creek Commons subdivision, south of South Haven and west of Valparaiso. Beach says no one was injured, as no one was home when the fire occurred, but that a dog, which was not injured, was taken to the Porter County Animal Shelter. Beach says an estimated 80-thousand dollars in damage was done to the home, and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
